Today I had the pleasure of working with a beautiful woman who grew up with extremely oily, acneic skin. I taught her a few things about controlling oil while creating her signature “Bombshell” look…
Hydrate: Like most women with oily skin, my new client had avoided moisturizing in fear of breakouts but the right moisturizer will create balance so skin doesn’t create excess sebum which can lead to future breakouts. I used Smashbox antishine on her t-zone to control mid day shine followed by Kanebo Silk Emulsion Light to restore balance.
Conceal: There is nothing like concealer to make a woman look less tired, brighter and fresher. The client mentioned that concealer tends to sit on top of her skin so I applied eye cream first. I chose Bobbi Brown Hydrating Eye Cream which contains polimers that act as a primer underneath concealer. Next I applied Bobbi Brown corrector in Deep Peach to neutralize the darkest areas under her eyes followed by Concealer in Golden to brighten.
To further address her issue with shine, I used Smashbox Studio Skin 15 hour wear foundation in 3.4. This foundation provides medium to full coverage depending on how its applied. In this case I used the Bobbi Brown Full Coverage Foundation brush to buff the foundation into her skin for flawless, opaque coverage. For added benefit, Studio Skin is a sweat and humidity resistant formula that treats dark spots and post-acne marks while keeping the skin hydrated and shine free all day. I set her foundation with Bobbi Brown Retouching Powder in Peach for an airbrushed look that further diminishes the appearance of dark spots and controls oil.
Brows: Brows frame the face and should never be ignored. I like to use powder instead of pencil for a more natural look. Starting at the base of her brow I brushed a mahogany brow powder from the inner corner of her brow to the arch with a hard, slanted brush. Once the base is created, use what’s left on the brush to softly brush up into the hair.
Bombshell Eyes: This is my client’s day to shine (without looking shiny) and I wanted her to look like the most sultry, confident version of herself so I chose to play up her incredible eyes. I began with a Bobbi Brown long wear cream shadow in Beach Bronze. Starting from the center of her lower lid I blended the color from her lash line to her crease and continued around the eye into her lower lash line using a cream shadow brush. This product not only acts as a base for any shadows layered on top of it but it provides opaque, rich color that can make you look like you’ve spent hours perfecting a sexy, smoky eye in minutes. Next I applied Mulch shadow by M.A.C. to the outer corner of her eyes and worked my way into the crease using the tip of a Chanel Eyeshadow Blender brush. No smoky eye is complete without liner! I rimmed her entire eye with Bobbi Brown long wear Gel eye liner in Black using the ultra fine liner brush and extended at the outer corners to accentuate her almond eyes. Next I applied 2 coats of Voluminous mascara in Carbon black to top and bottom lashes.
Cheeks: Many women avoid blush but this is one of my secret weapons! For healthy, natural color, nothing beats blush. Using a Sheer Powder brush by Bobbi Brown, I swept Bobbi’s Coral shimmer blush on the apples of her cheeks for a pop of color and a lit from within glow.
Lips: I always like a soft, glossy lip with a smoky eye so I chose Chocolate lipstick with Petal lip gloss as her natural lip color. Both by Bobbi Brown
The End Result: My client was shocked when she saw herself in the mirror. She couldn’t believe how beautiful she looked… Mission accomplished
